In contrast to the 2004, the 2019 Magari has no Merlot; instead it’s composed of 60% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot It’s a floral expression, with lavender and violet scents and bright red and black berries. There’s a touch of cream on the palate alongside ripe black fruits, black tea and wild strawberry, leading to a slightly spicy finish. Softly textured but well structured, it displays great balance and should improve in the cellar for years to come.

Description

VINEYARD INFORMATION The Ca’Marcanda estate is located not far from Bolgheri. Angelo Gaja acquired this property in 1996 and planted about 120 hectares of vines there. The choice of grape varieties was based on a selection of international plants, namely Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This region of Italy offers an ideal climate for the cultivation of these grape varieties. Nevertheless, Angelo Gaja wishes to produce wines that express the terroir, while remaining elegant and fresh.

Angelo Gaja is a renowned producer in Barbaresco in Piedmont. He took over the family estate in 1961. It was in the mid-90s that he decided to buy an estate in Tuscany.

VINEYARD INFORMATION

This is ‘Super Tuscan’ which means they tend to use more international grape varieties in their wines. This wine in particular is made Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. This is a very rich, complex wine, with dark berry fruit flavours and hints of tobacco, chocolate and spice.
