Description

The 2021 Kara-Tara Pinot Noir Reserve, crafted by Rüdger van Wyk of Stark-Condé, is made from grapes sourced from a unique, isolated vineyard in the Overberg region. The vineyard’s rocky shale soils and cool climate contribute to the wine’s elegance and complexity. The wine undergoes 25% whole-bunch fermentation and is matured for 12 months in 300-liter barrels, with 20% new oak. With only 700 bottles produced, this limited release offers a seductive perfume, elegant tannins, and a long, graceful finish, showcasing the potential of this exceptional site.

The aromatics are attractively floral and expressive with notes of violets, lilac and purple flowers, earthy wild strawberries, red currant preserve, black cherry and a pronounced earthy, savoury wood spice component boasting an intriguing sapidity. On the palate, there is a velvety, harmonious mouthfeel with a rounded, soft, fleshy generosity and cool layers of tangy red plum, pithy strawberry, red cherry rock candy, a mouth-watering integrated acidity and a savoury, smoky minerality on the finish. With only 1,375 bottles produced, a Pinot Noir of this quality is not going to hang around for long. A very classy expression from a deliciously fresh, vibrant vintage.
