“This classy 2023 Chardonnay was fermented and matured for 9 months in older French oak barriques and with a cool, lean 12.5% alcohol, the wine shows a decidedly taut, steely, mineral European-leaning styling. The aromatics show grated lemon peel, white each, dried herbs and intense wet stone granitic minerality. In the mouth, the wine is restrained and incredibly subtle, tightly wound and beautifully fresh with layers of lemon and lime, lemon grass, pineapple and tart green apple with a delicate dusting of leesy, mealy savoury complexity on the finish. Beautifully sleek, cool and restrained, this classy wine still packs a lot of punch while retaining a real sense of minerality. Drink on release and over the next 3 to 6 years.” – Greg Sherwood MW.
The Overgaauw Merlot is still made in its original ’Cape Claret’ style. David selects certain pockets within
the vineyard that shows great fruit concentration and reflects the uniqueness of Overgaauw’s Merlot. It is
a well-structured, medium-bodied wine with a rich combination of sumptuous black cherry fruit, hints of cocoa powder and elegant spicy oak notes. The fine but firm tannins are complemented by a mouth-filling fruity and lingering complexity. While this Merlot can be enjoyed now, it invites another 7 years in the bottle when it should reveal a pleasant surprise to those with patience. Decant this wine 30 minutes prior for optimum enjoyment.

“Undoubtedly one of the best value for money premium Cabernet Sauvignon s produced in the Cape, the highly anticipated 2021 vintage has finally landed and what a beauty it truly is. Dense, dark, and opaque in the glass, this vibrant vintage boasts incredibly lifted, perfumed aromatics packed full of rose petals, violets, potpourri, baking herbs and dried bay leaves, before plush intense notes of saline creme de cassis, graphite, cherry pipe tobacco and iodine hints emerge. On the palate, there is an incredibly sensual, creamy soft textured mouthfeel full of juicy blueberries, black cherries and tart black currant with fine, supple, pliable tannins beautifully framed and enlivened by a juicy, electric mouthwatering acidity.
