A vibrant yet composed aromatic profile, opening with fresh green melon and juicy tropical guava, followed by layered notes of passionfruit and blackcurrant. Bright citrus tones of grapefruit and blood orange bring lift and definition, while an underlying flinty, stone-like minerality anchors the fruit and adds a sense of cool precision. The palate is immediately shaped by a gentle saline entry, leading into a tight, chalk-etched structure. Green melon and blackcurrant notes carry through with clarity, joined by a subtle suggestion of dragon fruit that adds an exotic nuance. Balanced, finely tuned acidity tapers to a zesty, moreish finish.

    Description

Our Sauvignon Blanc vines are planted on the highest vineyards on the Estate, on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain range, facing False Bay. The early morning breezes cool the vines, which contributes to the superb natural acidity in the grapes. Decomposed granite soils contribute to the minerality on the palate.

    Origin: Helderberg, Stellenbosch
    Aspect:Predominantly South-West facing slopes
Soil: Decomposed granite soils – Tukulu
    Altitude: 400 – 470 m above sea level
Proximity to the ocean: 9 km from False Bay

    Vintage conditions:
A cool, wet winter provided the vines with excellent winter rest. From April to August, we had 678 mm of rain — the second highest rainfall since 2008. Cool, steady spring weather led to even budding though thorough canopy management as well as attention to humidity levels was essential. The 2025 ripening season was cool and dry, ideal for slow and even ripening. Careful monitoring of soil moisture levels and supplementary irrigation was required for optimal ripening. 2025 is one of the most balanced, quality-focused vintages in recent years.

    Optimum serving temperature: 12 – 14 °C

    Producer Profile

Given owner Toby Venter’s assumed need for speed, as CEO of LSM Distributors, responsible for Porsche and Lamborghini in South Africa, as well as the owners of Kyalami race track, his purchase of Uva Mira Mountain Vineyards in 2013, up against the slopes of the Helderberg seems in direct contrast to this high octane lifestyle.

Everything in wine is time. Uva Mira is named for a famous star in the constellation of Cetus (a Greek sea monster who was offered the princess Andromeda to appease Poseidon but was slain by Perseus either by sword or using Medusa’s head which turned him to stone – the details are complicated and murky). The giant red star named ‘the wonderful’ or ‘Mira’ in Latin undergoes a 332-day cycle of fading into obscurity, becoming bright, and then fading again (over almost a year), drawing parallels between winemaking and stargazing. The patience inherent to growing grapes, understanding the terroir, blending, and maturation, the once-a-year opportunity to harvest, and the celebration once you can taste the literal fruits of your labour – explains the name Uva Mira, Latin meaning The Wonderful Grape.
