The wine’s inviting nose displays lime, green apple, with white peach and pineapple. Here subtle spices of ginger, angelica and white pepper are entwined with florals of peach blossom and honeysuckle. The palate shows further fruit depth with quince, kumquat, mandarin orange and pear, against a backdrop of steely minerals. Hints of roasted hazelnuts and almonds add to the complexity of the palate. The wine is exceptionally linear and fresh with a fine texture and finishes with notes of fennel and the ginger spiciness promised by the nose.

    Description

Nestled in the heart of Stellenbosch, where the sun kisses the vineyards and the soil whispers tales of centuries past, the Eden High Density Single Vineyard Chenin Blanc 2021 emerges as a testament to the artistry of Raats Family Wines. Born from a vision to redefine excellence, this vintage embodies the spirit of innovation and tradition, offering a sensory journey through the terroir of South Africa’s winemaking heritage.

Winemaking: 20% whole bunch. Spontaneous fermentation after cold soaking took place for an extended period.

Very subtle extraction during fermentation, with a light punch through daily. After fermentation, the wine was basket pressed to new French oak, where it remained for 10 months.

From there it was racked to a natural French oak barrel, where it rested for another 8 months before the wine was prepared for bottling.

Aging potential: Embrace the journey of discovery as this wine evolves gracefully over the next 8 to 12 years, revealing new dimensions with each passing year.

Blend information: Crafted with 100% Chenin Blanc, this wine is a pure expression of the vineyard’s essence and character.

Food suggestions: Elevate your dining experience with bouillabaisse, scallops, slow-roasted pork belly, or indulge in the exotic flavors of North African dishes alongside this exquisite wine.

    Producer Profile

Jasper Raats is the shareholder, cellar master and managing director of Longridge Wine Estate, as well as partner in Vigneron Consulting, an international consulting business.  The consultancy shares valuable knowledge to a select group of clients, particularly focusing on organic and biodynamic viticulture and oenology. In fact, it was through this consulting business that his relationship with Longridge first started.

Jasper has established himself as one of the most talented winemakers in South Africa and first gained prominence for wines he created in New Zealand. In 2003, he started working as viticulturist and winemaker at New Zealand’s Clos Henri in the Marlborough region, developing a new vineyard and making wine for French Company, Henri Bourgeois. During this period, he also started Koru Wines, which became one of New Zealand’s top and most expensive wines.

His international experience includes working in Burgundy, Pouilly Fume, Sancerre and in Napa and Sonoma under Pierre Seillan, the genial French creator of Vérité Wines.
