Description
The nose reveals an inviting blend of cassis, dark hedgerow fruit, dark
chocolate, and tobacco, complemented by pronounced graphite, delicate
herbal notes, and savoury elements, reflecting the higher proportion of
Cabernet Franc in this vintage (with Merlot omitted due to insufficient
ripeness). The palate is bold and layered, showing a harmonious balance of
fruit and oak around a dark-fruited core, finishing rich and dry with
remarkable complexity, elegance, and ageing potential.

The better vineyards perform well in shitty vintages, says Abrie Beeslaar and here is the proof. Right up there with the best 2023 Stellenbosch reds, this is a profound, beautifully crafted assemblage of Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Cabernet Franc from two sites on the Helderberg and in Banghoek. Even better than the maiden 2022 release, it has alluring espresso coffee and lead pencil aromas, sculpted tannins, subtle oak spices and layers of cassis, basil and red cherry. 2028-38. Jason Millar: Open and enticing nose with abundant sweet spice interleaved with ripe, smoky red fruit, fynbos and dried herbs. Plush, with a long finish. Complex, seductive and refined. Roger Jones: Real class, with layers of fresh complexity, toasty plum and blueberry, wild-foraged herbs. Leaves a wonderful mouthfeel. Victoria Mason MW: Incredible intensity and poise, with well-integrated oak, ripe fruit and silky tannins. This has a sense of direction that makes it stand out above the rest of the flight.
