80% Cab Franc and 20% Malbec from vineyards at (you guessed it) 1,500 metres above sea level. Blended after pressing and co-fermented in a Stockinger foudre for 20 months. Such purity to the cab franc, almost Loire crunch and gritty, grainy minerality to it but with a new world bravado in its finish.

Description

The Raquis San Pablo 2022 is a precise expression of Malbec from the high-altitude San Pablo region in the Uco Valley, Mendoza. This wine showcases a profile of dark fruit, alongside subtle hints of menthol, reflecting its cool-climate origins. The texture is noteworthy, featuring a fine structure and a distinct mineral backbone. The vineyards are situated at elevations exceeding 1,400 metres, on alluvial soils rich in limestone, contributing to the wine’s acidity and freshness.

Tasting Notes

Vinous 96

The 2022 Raquis San Pablo hails from the Uco Valley. The more humid (in the dry context of Mendoza) foothill of the Andes reaches a peak on the San Pablo Geographical Indication. And this Cabernet Franc-based blend, with 16% of Malbec, takes advantage of this slightly moist atmosphere. The palate is compact, presenting soft ash aromas, a touch of black fruit, greater density and structure and a subtle hint of jalapeno-like pepper. The wine has a certain tension, with a rich, flavorful and layered profile. It finishes long, with a returning note of ash and a firm, rounded palate. Compared to the previous vintage, this delivers a more nuanced character with the Malbec addition. [Joaquin Hidalgo, 01/11/2024]
