Description
Fattoria Le Pupille`s Saffredi was the first Super-Tuscan to be produced in the south of the region, guided at its inception by the architect of the movement, the great Dr. Giacomo Tachis. Produced from a single vineyard, the wine is driven by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and a dash of Petit Verdot. Critics repeatedly place Saffredi among the highest echelons of Italian wines, and 2020 is no different – James Suckling reaches 98 Points.

Vinous 96.5/100
The 2020 Saffredi is compelling. Deep yet quite structured, 2020 is unlike any Saffredi I can recall tasting because of its balance of intense dark fruit and vertical structure. Plum, blackberry, pencil shavings, lavender and spice saturate the palate. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2020 is not as showy as most vintages at the same stage. Producer Profile
Elisabetta Geppetti, the powerhouse behind Fattoria Le Pupille, is a woman of exceptional energy and vision. She was only 20 years old when she first took the reins at her family’s property in Southern Tuscany in the 1980s. The winery is synonymous with Morellino di Scansano and Elisabetta has been instrumental in placing this appellation on the map of wine lovers, producing excellent value Sangiovese and gaining global fame with the area’s first Super-Tuscan, Saffredi. Her children Clara and Ettore are now instrumental in the winery, and together are working to look toards the future. This second generation has created two incredible, innovative wines: Le Pupille, an amphora-aged Syrah, and Piemme, a phenomenal and unique Petit Manseng.
