Description
Made from Nerello Mascalese grapes grown in the 1.5 hectare Sopra il Pozzo vineyard in Contrada Arcuria, in Passopiscario on the northern slopes on Mount Etna in Sicily. Fermented and aged in large aok cask.
Harvest: last week of October.
Vinification: traditional red vinification in large oak tini without temperature control. Very long maceration on skins.
Aging: 18 months in large oak tini with spontaneous development of malolactic fermentation and aging for at least 12 months in bottle.
Vineyard: In depth research carried out in 2004 on the grounds of the Contrada highlighted the diversity of texture, profile and chemical composition of each individual vineyard. Every year, this is always recongisable for transparency, lightness, fluidity, but also for complexity: an hermetic wine. This wine’s name comes from ‘Sopra il Pozzo,’ a vineyard that was discovered to have a different soil from all the others: a continuous alternation of layers of stone and coarse sand called ‘rifusa’. This is a vineyard capable of expressing transparency and depth at the same time. Bottled only in great expression vintages.
