Description
Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2018 benefitted from wonderful summer conditions of long, warm sunshine-filled days, leading to an early harvest on 20th August. The harvest yielded a plentiful crop (much like in 1928) in immaculate condition, with just over 10% potential alcohol and abundant aromatic levels. Whilst acidity levels are lower than those in 2008, the wine gives a wonderful impression of tautness and freshness to underpin the undoubted power of the vintage. The dosage has been reduced further to 7g/L in order to show off the expressive aromatics and to further balance the weight on the palate.
Tasting Notes
JancisRobinson.com 17.5
Full bottle 1,581 g. 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from 20 Grand and Premier Crus villages in the Montagne de Reims and the Cote des Blancs. Aged 33 m below ground level and hand-riddled before being disgorged December 2023. Rich, floral nose with a real spread of power on both nose and palate. Really very winning! Lemon cream flavours – very seductive. Long. This has really opened out since I first tasted it in magnum in March 2024. Definitely rich – a world away from a zero dosage grower champagne – but it should be hugely enjoyable in the relatively short term. (JR) [04/05/2025]
