We were lucky enough to taste this wine over lunch with winemaker extraordinaire Thierry Haberer at the farm earlier this year and are delighted to have a 30 bottle allocation to share with you. Barely more than 2,500 bottles were produced and the wine, which spends 27 months in French Oak before bottling,  is rich, elegant and one of the finest expressions of Cabernet Franc you’re likely to find.

    Description

This 2017 Magnum of Holden Manz Cabernet Franc Reserve is a wine of great elegance and complexity. The color is a deep garnet with a dark red edge, hinting at its rich character. On the nose, it offers an enchanting bouquet of mulberries, blackberries, and tobacco leaf, with delicate notes of lavender and spice, along with a subtle hint of tarragon. The palate is equally captivating, with layers of cassis and dark berries, balanced by savory flavors and a smooth, well-integrated texture. The wine’s silky tannins and balanced oak create a harmonious, full-bodied experience, with a long, satisfying finish that lingers with richness and tension. A wine of exceptional depth, ideal for pairing with grilled meats, hearty stews, or rich cheeses.

    Producer Profile

A family owned wine producer located in the heart of the Franschhoek Valley. Established by owners Gerard Holden (a British investment banker in another life) & Migo Manz in 2010. The 22ha estate is situated between the Franschhoek River and Stony Brook at 300m above sea level.  With only 16 ha under vine, their focus has always been red grape varieties, though their stellar white wines, from the reserve Chardonnay, to the Chenin Blanc, and now Semillon requires further inspection. Best you read the critic’s notes and taste, to see for yourself!
