Description
Grape variety: A blend of 90% Carricante and 10% Catarratto, indigenous white grape varieties of Etna.
Grape origin: In Contrada Muganazzi, Contrada Santo Spirito and Contrada Arcurìa, in the hamlet of Passopisciaro, municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, on the northern slope of Etna. Vineyards located between 600 and 800 m above sea level, in a volcanic setting of pronounced temperature swings and extraordinary winegrowing potential.
Soil type: The vineyard grows on mineral-rich volcanic soils with excellent drainage and great expressive capacity. The vines are planted at a density of around 6,300 vines per hectare, in a cool, breezy mountain environment that encourages slow, balanced ripening.
Winemaking: The grapes are vinified in steel and, in small part, in oak casks, after slow whole-cluster pressing, without destemming. Fermentation occurs spontaneously, without selected yeasts, to best preserve the wine’s sense of place.
Aging: Maturation takes place in steel tanks on the lees for about six months, followed by a further period of aging in bottle.
In the glass: A bright straw-yellow colour with greenish reflections. On the nose, citrus, floral and mineral notes emerge, accompanied by delicate hints of Mediterranean herbs and flint. On the palate it is fresh, savoury and vertical, with a vibrant acidity and a long mineral finish. A balance between energy and pleasure.
