Grenache noir is the abalone of the winelands— rare, elusive, and deeply coveted. Each year, quiet battles are fought over every precious cluster. Hoendertande Grenache is fermented with whole bunches and gently matured in 500-litre barrels. Tasting Notes

Greg Sherwood 94

Grenache is currently the rising star of the South African wine industry and there are some incredible examples being produced, like the Hoendertande 2023. Super bright and crunchy, there is real lift and energy on the aromatics, packed full of cranberry, Victoria plum and sour cherries with a delicate fynbos herbal base note. Pure and sleek in the mouth, this shows energy, vivacity and supple silky tannins, pink musk, textural elegance and a seductive palate harmony, finishing with bright, persistent tangy acids. Such a darling of a wine! Drink now to 2032+. [Greg Sherwood MW, 01/06/2026]
