One of the most profound wines Andre has ever made, this stunner was sourced from a Chenin Blanc vineyard in the Paardeberg planted in 1998 at around 400 metres above sea level on deep decomposed granite soils. Super taut, lean and mineral driven, this wine is very backward in coming forward, grudgingly yielding subtle aromatics of white peach, dried herbs, fynbos, grated lime peel, crunchy pear and a profound smoky, reductive crushed granite mineral essence. The palate is as lean and linear as the nose suggests, offering up a wound spring tension and a chiselled structure that s all about searing acids, a briney salinity and a lean, wet river pebble minerality in the mouth. This is an incredibly special wine that needs to be tasted over one, two or three days to really experience its profound depth, complexity and purity. A Chenin Blanc so serious and grown up it should carry an Adults Only age restriction! Wow. Drink this from 2026 to 2040+. (97+/100 Greg Sherwood MW) [Greg Sherwood, 01/01/2023]
