A Pinotage from both old and young vines on shale / clay – grown and made in Burgundy (Pinot Noir) style, in a cool Elgin climate. Matured for 10 months in French oak, 50% new. It’s a racy, cool climate expression of the grape, with tangy red cherry and raspberry fruit, stony intensity, whole bunch spices and a hint of good reduction.

    Producer Profile

Spioenkop reminds us of the 24th January 1900, when the battle of Spioenkop took place on the slopes of the famous Spioenkop Hill in Natal. This war between the ‘Boere’ and the ‘British soldiers’ was a significant display of bravery and courage on both sides and is part of the South African history. Our hill, which is actually a look-a-like of the one in Natal, brings us back to this historical event and allows us to make fine, elegant and complex wine; wines that reflect the same perserverance in the glass.
