Cantina Terlano is well known in Italian wine drinking circles for producing Italy’s longest lived white wines. Many memorable wines from the 1950s and 1960s, which rank amongst the greatest white wines of the world, were made here. Located in the heart of the Terlan wine-growing region and founded in 1893, it is one of the oldest Alto Adige cooperatives. At that time, 24 growers set themselves the goal of joint production and sales marketing. Recognition and prosperity blossomed from there. Today Terlano has approximately 100 members, it farms 150 hectares and has an annual production of roughly 1.2 million bottles.

    Description

The 2021 Quarz Sauvignon Blanc is a beautifully crafted wine showcasing seductive aromas of spicy herbs, grapefruit peel, and a hint of white smoke. On the palate, it’s powerful yet balanced, with zesty acidity complementing flavors of lemon curd, guava, and salty minerality. Aged for nine months on the lees, with 50% in large wooden barrels and 50% in stainless steel, it offers a creamy, lingering finish with mineral and herbaceous nuances. Ideal for enjoying now or cellaring for a few years.

    Daniel Grigg NR

Brilliant straw yellow color. This Sauvignon is enticingly exotic in the glass, with multilayered fruit of mango, papaya, lime and red grapefruit, and herbal aromas reminiscent of lemon grass, lemon balm, mint and green tea. It also reveals mineral notes of flint combined with a hint of elderberry syrup. On the palate, the wine offers a fascinating interplay of juicy fruit aromas and delicate minerality creating a harmonious opulence with a long and impressive finish. [Daniel Grigg, 01/04/2023]

    Producer Profile

Founded in 1893, the Cantina Terlano winery is now one of the leading wine growers’ cooperatives in South Tyrol, with a current membership of 143 growers.  We and our members have long had a strong focus on quality. That has attracted praise and recognition on the Italian and international wine markets, and in spite of its relatively small size, Cantina Terlano is now well established in the world of wine.
