“The decision to work with Touriga Nacional came naturally as it is a variety that thrives in hot and dry conditions. The vineyard was planted in 2007 on deep sandy granitic soils with a north westerly aspect. A hot slope, but it still enjoys cool shady mornings as a result of the steep valley. The Touriga fares exceptionally well with great balance in fruit and small bunches with small, concentrated berries. The grape has a natural high acidity and low pH which is perfect for these climatic conditions. Deep, dark in colour with a purple rim. Rich floral aromas of violets and sweet oriental spice. Complex flavours of blueberry, plum and purpleand black forest fruits and a soft but succulent acidity. It is elegantly weighty with a velvetydensity and a defined underlying structure. A wine that reveals the identity of Touriga Nacional with uncompromised character.”
Description
The 2020 Swerwer Touriga Nacional showcases a deep, dark color with a purple rim. Floral aromas of violets, wild thyme, and oriental spice lead into complex flavors of blueberry, plum, and black forest fruits. The wine has a succulent acidity and a velvety texture, with an elegant weight and a defined structure. A natural ferment and maturation in old oak barrels have preserved the grape’s natural high acidity and intense character, making this a beautifully balanced wine with uncompromising Touriga Nacional character.

Deep, dark in colour with a red/purple rim. Rich aromas of juicy, fresh berry fruits and floral notes of violets and lavender fields. Complex flavours of blueberry and purple and black forest fruits with a dense palate and a bright, succulent fresh finish. It has the raw, tight tannic structure of a more natural approach. Producer Profile
Swerwer Wines are produced by winemaker JC Wickens based in the Swartland winemaking region. Jasper is a young, passionate, fun-loving guy who isn’t afraid to do things a little differently. He can usually be found in his wine cellar working away with 80’s rock playing in the background. During his early winemaking days he used to ‘migrate’ from harvest to harvest in different winemaking regions in the world including the US, Spain & France. These frequent travels not only gave him invaluable winemaking experience but also earned him the nickname ‘Swerwer’ meaning Wanderer in Afrikaans.
