The 2020 Barbaresco is a very young wine. In most years, the Gaja Barbaresco is quite showy, but the 2020 clearly needs time. There’s terrific fruit intensity, but the aromatics aren’t quite expressive. These days the Gaja wines have less oak imprint, which pushes the fruit forward, but also yields a wine that is a bit more austere in the early going.

The proprietary name Promis (pronounced proh-MEESS) was created by the Gaja family to denote commitment, expectation, fulfillment, and hope. The promise of quality and the reward of diligence and excellence.
VINEYARD INFORMATION
This is ‘Super Tuscan’ which means they tend to use more international grape varieties in their wines. This wine in particular is made Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. This is a very rich, complex wine, with dark berry fruit flavours and hints of tobacco, chocolate and spice.
