Producer Profile
Brothers JP and Pierre Winshaw have released a new set of wines under the Winshaw Vineyards label. The wines are inspired by their great-grandfather, Dr. William Charles Winshaw, who started the Stellenbosch Farmers’ Winery, and their grandfather, Bill Winshaw, who continued the growth of this company. The Winshaw Family Farm is located in Klein Welmoed, Stellenbosch where, in addition to wine, Pierre and JP also produce pasture-reared beef, lamb and eggs.

"The superb Winshaw 2019 is a wine of stature and power being a blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Malbec, 11% Cabernet Franc and 11% Merlot. The aromatics are exotic and alluring, revealing fragrant notes of pink musk, bubble gum, red berries, black currants, black tea and sappy sweet cedar wood spice. For a Cabernet Sauvignon dominated wine, the palate is notably sleek, creamy, fleshy, and broad, coating the mouth with a dry fine grained mineral textured tannin, soft supple vital acids, finishing with a delicious candied cherry berry fruit persistence. Undoubtedly a very serious blend that holds much in common with the best expressions of the substantial, structured 2019 vintage. It will almost certainly improve with another 3 to 5 years of cellar ageing but you can drink now and over the next 10-15+ years." [Greg Sherwood MW, 01/09/2024]

"Plenty of elderberry bitterness, blackcurrant astringency and green-pepper thiols challenging the swish, dark gleam of cassis sweetness in this wine. It feels like a tailored suit, Savile, hand-stitched, every fold and seam a line of perfection, nothing out of place. But it also holds the promise of dusk and musk, gravel and stubble, cologne and mint and maybe the bloody tang of a rare steak." [Tamlyn Currin, 01/08/2024]
