Description

The 2018 Holden Manz Chardonnay Reserve is a bright, deep lemon in color, with an expressive nose of vanilla, lemon zest, pistachios, and lime blossom. On the palate, extended lees contact imparts a creamy complexity, with a full mouthfeel and crisp acidity that highlights ripe grapefruit and lime. Elegant flavors of Cape gooseberry, white peach, and elderflower are beautifully interwoven with complex acidity, leading to a long, smooth finish.

Ideal with seafood dishes such as lobster with lemon butter, slow-poached oysters, roasted monkfish or pan-fried sea scallops. Also pairs well with white fish and light pork dishes.

Producer Profile

A family owned wine producer located in the heart of the Franschhoek Valley. Established by owners Gerard Holden (a British investment banker in another life) & Migo Manz in 2010. The 22ha estate is situated between the Franschhoek River and Stony Brook at 300m above sea level.  With only 16 ha under vine, their focus has always been red grape varieties, though their stellar white wines, from the reserve Chardonnay, to the Chenin Blanc, and now Semillon requires further inspection. Best you read the critic’s notes and taste, to see for yourself!
