The nose is very rich in black fruit aromas, with delicate notes of toasted bread and roasted coffee. Well-balanced and ample on the palate. The tannic structure is silky and velvety.

Description

The Château Cap Léon Veyrin has been family-owned since 1810 when the Château Cap Léon and the Veyrin estates were joined. The word ‘Cap’ originally meant ‘head’. The vineyard of Cap Veyrin actually thrones on the higher land of Listrac Médoc, and thus boasts ideal natural drainage and sun exposure.

Nathalie and Julien Meyre are the 6th generation of this Médoc family of winegrowers to manage the property. The family traditions are perpetuated with care : predominance of Merlot, fining with egg white, ageing for 12 months in barrels, hand-picking for the harvest of the youngest and oldest vines. Nathalie and Julien now bring their own new experience and dynamic to this well-known Cru Bourgeois of the Médoc.

Situation :
Gravelly marl to the north of Listrac Médoc. Surface area 15Ha.

Soil :
Clay-limestone, average age of vines : 40 years.

GRAPE VARIETIES :
60 % Merlot, 35 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot.

Vinification :
Manual and mechanical harvesting, hand sorting, total de-stemming, mechanical crushing, fermentation in stainless steel vats.

AGEING :
In oak barrels, for 12 months (60 % new), fining with egg white.

Production :
80 000 bottles , bottled at the château by our team. Second Wine : Les Hauts de Veyrin.

Tasting Notes

Greg Sherwood 93+

A beautifully deep purple-black colour draws you in to reveal expressive aromatics of sweet violets, black currants, stewed black cherries, black plums and an attractive top note of sweet grilled herbs that mix with hints of black tea, cherry pipe tobacco and a dusty graphite minerality. There is wonderful energy and power in the mouth with all the fruit concentration concertinaed by bright crunchy fresh acids and suave drying gravelly tannins. The oaking smells and tastes suitably expensive but is all in perfect balance for what is a very impressive wine from an excellent Medoc vintage. Drink now to 2036+. [Greg Sherwood MW, 14/05/2026]

Cru bourgeois superieur. ???????58% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot. Deeper crimson. Rich and ripe with a dash of vanilla oak. Palate juicy, fresh and harmonious, the alcohol not too evident. Slightly dry, grainy finish. Solid and affirmed. (JL) [23/12/2020]
