“The Páramo de Corcos region is the most surprising and at the same time, unknown region of Ribera. Ten thousand hectares of flat landscape, where only the bravest know how to work the land in extreme conditions throughout the year. A place where the cold shrinks the bones, the wind cuts the flesh and the sun burns the skin.

The Páramo reflects the sweat, fear and strength of the people who cultivate a land where the most sought after grape of the entire denomination can be found.”

Description

2018 Bodegas Bardos Bardos Reserva is a high-altitude Ribera del Duero wine made from low-yielding Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for 14 months in oak, it offers excellent structure with balanced tannins and acidity. The wine features complex notes of dark fruit, chocolate, and vanilla spice. Ideal for fans of big, rich reds like Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, it pairs wonderfully with hearty dishes like slow-cooked ox cheek stew.

INTRODUCTION

The Páramo de Corcos region is the most surprising and at the same time, unknown region of Ribera. Ten thousand hectares of flat landscape, where only the bravest know how to work the land in extreme conditions throughout the year. A place where the cold shrinks the bones, the wind cuts the flesh and the sun burns the skin.

The Páramo reflects the sweat, fear and strength of the people who cultivate a land where the most sought after grape of the entire denomination can be found.

CELLAR INFORMATION

Winemaking: Fermentation and maceration during 4 weeks in 15,000 kg vats at 28ºC. Malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels. Aging: 16 months in new French oak barrels.

VINEYARD INFORMATION

Varieties: Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Vineyard: Old low-yield vineyards of Tinta del País, located in Moradillo de Roa (Burgos), in the heart of the Páramo de Corcos at more than 900 meters above sea level. Tinta del Pais comes also from the Soria vineyards around San Esteban de Gormaz, where they are grown at an altitude of almost 1,000 meters on ferrous clay soils. The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a younger vineyard, planted in the late 90’s in the Fuentemolinos area, also in Burgos. Harvest: Manual harvest of selected grapes between October 7 and 17.

TASTING NOTES

The nose is complex and attractive, with notes of black fruit, chocolate and French oak. The palate is fleshy and powerful, with a balanced acidity and nice tannins giving the wine all its character.
