Description
This wine showcases the essence of a classic Rioja, crafted from 85% Tempranillo and 15% Graciano. The grapes are sourced from 50-year-old vines and undergo a meticulous fermentation process, followed by 24 months of ageing in French and American oak barrels. The wine is then aged for an additional 36 months in bottle. It offers complex aromas of ripe red fruit, spices, and earthy notes, with a rich, well-structured palate and smooth tannins, making it ideal for extended cellaring.

95% Tempranillo and 5% Graciano (according to the back of the bottle, though the exporter s technical information says it s 85% Tempranillo and 15% Graciano) from vines at least 50 years old located in the highest part (560 m above sea level) of Villabuena. Fermented and macerated in stainless-steel tanks, then aged 24 months in French and American oak barrels and a further 36 months in bottle.Vanilla, clove, allspice, leather and a bit of tar. Voluptuous plum, boysenberry and blackberry. Classic Rioja but not generic; it really does taste like it comes from a particular place. Currently in the grip of a lot of sandpapery tannins, but it has a lifted freshness that should help it age elegantly. (JRL) [20/09/2023]
