They’ve just landed – new vintage releases from one of South Africa’s most iconic estates: Lanzerac.
Founded in 1692 and renamed in the 1920s by the formidable Mrs. Elizabeth English, Lanzerac is steeped in history—but it’s best known for making it. In 1961, the estate released the world’s first bottled Pinotage, forever securing its place in South African wine legend.
Today, Lanzerac blends old-world prestige with modern refinement. Following a sweeping restoration after a 2017 fire, the estate now boasts a luxury hotel, spa, and award-winning cellar—all nestled in Stellenbosch’s Jonkershoek Valley.
Lanzerac’s signature Pinotage remains a benchmark for the style: bold, structured, and storied—at just £16.98, it’s a ridiculous bargain for a slice of wine history.

Lanzerac Wine Estate…
Nobody’s been bottling Pinotage longer than Lanzerac and this wine shows a wealth of experience with this proudly South African variety. The 2022 Pinotage boasts an excellent deep colour, ripe berries and plums on the nose and palate with a good mouth-feel and lingering aftertaste. With 5 to 10 years’ maturation this wine will start to acquire the velvet density and luxurious chocolate and caramel flavours of its very early Lanzerac predecessors. A full-bodied, complex wine with a beautiful balance between fruit and wood showcasing a good tannin structure that will allow it to age extremely well.
