The Winshaw brothers Pierre and JP Winshaw of the Stellenbosch property, Klein Welmoed, make Usana wines and, more recently, their more premium Winshaw Vineyards label. The great-grandsons of Dr. William Charles Winshaw, founder of the Stellenbosch Farmers Winery (later Distell), and grandsons of Bill Winshaw, a key figure in the production of most of SA’s iconic heritage wines, think Château Libertas, Lieberstein, Tassenberg, among others, are therefore, by divine right, SA wine royalty.
On the 8 September, co-proprietor JP Winshaw will join us in London to tell the enthralling Winshaw story and present the Winshaw Vineyards wine range for the very first time in the UK. The maiden 2017 vintages garnered impressive scores from international wine critics. The follow-up 2018 vintages of their Bordeaux Blend and their 2021 Malbec have arrived in the UK and look certain to be equally sought-after.
Join us for an extraordinary gastronomic feast of food and wine from this Michelin Starred restaurant where renowned South African Master of Wine, Greg Sherwood MW, will join JP Winshaw to tutor you through the Winshaw Vineyards’ new arrivals and some upcoming new releases alongside some classical international benchmark fine wines that have influenced the Winshaws on their winemaking journey.
Places are strictly limited, so book your place asap.
Many thanks
The Museum Wines Team.
The Winshaw Fine Wine Lunch & Tasting
with JP Winshaw and Greg Sherwood MW
WHERE: La Trompette Restaurant Private Room, Chiswick, West London
WHEN: Friday, 8 September
TIME: 12:30 pm
PRICE: £ 120 per person incl 4 courses and wine
95 Points – Greg Sherwood MW
“A blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 4% Malbec, the wine displays compact aromatics boasting broody black berry fruits with hints of purple flowers, blueberry, sweet raspberry herbal tea, crème de cassis and purple rock candy with a kiss of graphite. The palate shows more power, textural density and depth than the Bill Winshaw Cuvee but an equal amount of elegant harmonious black fruited breadth, creamy black cherry and a soft supple, inky saline black berry length. A really delicious expression of a Cabernet Sauvignon based Cape Bordeaux blend. Drink now and over the next 10 to 15 years.” – Greg Sherwood MW.

“This Malbec shows picante dark broody black fruits with lashings of black currant, black cherry, mocha chocolate and graphite spice. The texture is seductively inviting and accessible, beautifully silky soft and sleek with cool spicy blue and black berry fruits, crème de cassis, cherry kirsch liquor and a supple, dry mineral granitic finish. A very focused, fresh and elegant expression of Malbec. Drink now and over the next 5 to 8 years. (Only 1,300 bottles produced)” – Greg Sherwood MW.
