Have you ever gone walkabout?
In Australia it describes the coming of age journey of an Aboriginal child, though it can also describe unexplained absences of any kind, a nomadic predisposition to wander aimlessly, though perhaps ‘aimlessly’ is the aim in itself, and thus not aimless at all. We’ve gone walkabout and sourced some truly intriguing wines from what the Western world calls the New World, though just because its history is not recorded like we’d expect, doesn’t mean its not ancient.
Following a vigorous selection process to find the very best Pinot Noir and Gris to introduce to our new retail range our Managing Director and buyer, Daniel Grigg, found that the expressions from Te Kano and Selection Massale were not only of the highest quality but offered astounding value for money, especially given that Central Otago reds and Marlborough whites of a similar ilk can command more than double what we’re able to offer these wines for.
Boasting a Pinot Noir from Central Otago (NZ), a Pinot Gris from the South Island (NZ), and a Pinot Noir from the Commune of Buttons (AUS), and Free Run Chardonnay (AUS) at uniquely accessible pricepoints – we invite you to wander with us. Cut the cord, and explore.

New Walkabout Wines
Australia & New Zealand
The Lloyd family fell in love with this site located in Central Otago and decided to plant vineyards on it. They named the estate Te Kano, meaning seed in Maori. Helped with viticulturist Mike Winter and winemaker Dave Sutton, they produce a small selection from vineyards and barrels, which are often produced in extremely limited quantities.
Founded by Dan Gillett in 2021 to help grow New Zealand’s ever expanding new wave of natural and organic winemaking. Stylistically, Selection Massale is serious and well-made wine that speaks to the vineyard, the variety, and the region it comes from. The wines are approachable and designed to be shared and enjoyed by all audiences. A luscious but dry Pinot Gris with fruit weight, aromatics and texture.
The 2021 Commune of Buttons Pinot Noir is a red wine from the Adelaide Hills region of South Australia, made in a “natural” or “lo-fi” winemaking style with minimal intervention. It is a bright, earthy, and dark-fruited wine with notes of cherry, cassis, plum, and bay, and it is known for its delicate frame and good tannin structure. The 2021 vintage was made from grapes grown in two separate parcels, resulting in a complex wine that captures the essence of the Adelaide Hills region.
Free Run Juice Samurai Chardonnay is a crisp and refreshing white wine that is perfect for any occasion. Produced in the famed wine region of South Australia, this wine is made from the finest Chardonnay grapes carefully selected by skilled winemakers who use modern techniques to ensure the highest quality wine. The wine boasts of a bright and lively palate with notes of citrus, stone fruits, and hints of vanilla.
