It was thanks to Ian Naudé that we met Jasper Wickens on Waterval, Jasper Wickens’ Paardeberg farm in the Swartland during our visit in January.
Jasper spent 10 years working alongside Adi Badenhorst, just a few minutes drive from Waterval, and it was this mentorship that awoke a passion for the hands off, minimal intervention approach employed by Adi which was a far cry from the clinical and sterile approach he’d experienced working in Napa following his graduation from Stellenbosch University.
Though Adi wasn’t the only Swartland winemaker to influence Jasper’s philosophy when he started Swerwer in 2012. Having previously worked under a name which has become synonymous with the Swartland… Eben Sadie.
Jasper travelled to Priorat for three vintages working alongside Eben at
Terroir-al-Limit, crafting some of the regions finest wines from Old Vine Grenache and Carignan, using traditional winemaking methods.
We’re very excited to welcome Swerwer to the Museum Wines family, his wines are exciting and vibrant, full of verve and vigour and Jasper will be hosting an introduction to four of his wines on Wednesday 22nd June.
On the night we’ll be tasting:
Touriga Nacional 2020
Rooi-Groen Semillon 2020
Tiernes Single Vineyard Chenin Blanc 2020
