The project was born when the French-Danish Rousset family travelled to the southwest coast of South Africa, and the name Idun came from the Norse goddess of eternal life, fertility and apples – for which Elgin is famous. The grapes for Nuit Eternelle are hand-harvested with 40% whole bunches for fermentation, and the 2019 was matured slightly longer than normal over 16 months in 30% new French oak barrels. Greg Sherwood MW: Layers of blackberry compote, black-fruit pastries and subtle vanilla wood spice. Plush and harmonious, broad but fabulously elegant, enlivened by refreshing acids and lovely clarity. Classy. Daniel Grigg: Richly textured and defined by dense black fruit, liquorice and fatty biltong. Roger Jones: Blackberry crumble on the nose, refined and elegant mid-palate. A luxurious but delicate wine that shows hints of cocoa and cassis along with a lovely fresh brightness.

In The Cellar
The grapes were handpicked and moved to our cool room overnight. 60% were destemmed and the balance left as whole bunch. Spontaneous fermentation happened in open-top tanks and due to COVID the wine was matured for longer than usual (16 months) using 30% new French oak barrels.

Fruit driven, cherry, blackberry, typical French style Syrah/Syrah/Shiraz with layered spices and white pepper. Aged for 14 months in French oak barrels. Elegant structure, supple in texture, refined with a long lingering finish.
