Founded by Giovanni Gaja in 1859, the estate is now run and maintained by the 4th and 5th generation, Angelo Gaja and children Gaia and Giovanni. They are still based in Barbaresco but have also purchased land in prime Tuscan vineyard areas: Pieve Santa Restituta in Montalcino (27 hectares), to make Brunello di Montalcino, and Ca’ Marcanda (126 hectares) in Bolgheri. Angelo Gaja was an early promoter of single-vineyard wines, now known as ‘Crus’ following the Burgundy mould, making small quantities of exceptional quality wines with utmost care. The reputation of the estate is such that many would consider them, in the words of the Wine Spectator, ‘perhaps the finest Italian wines ever made’.

In The Cellar
Each vineyard`s grapes underwent separate fermentation and maceration processes, spanning approximately three weeks. Following a maturation period of 24 months in oak barrels, the wines were artfully blended and further aged for an additional six months in concrete vats before being bottled.
In The Vineyard
Crafted from a meticulous selection of grapes sourced from the Rennina and Sugarille vineyards, along with those from Torrenieri, the 2018 Gaja Brunello di Montalcino exemplifies a harmonious blend. The Rennina and Sugarille vineyards boast a clay-calcareous soil enriched with substantial quantities of galestro, a rocky, schistous clay soil, while Torrenieri`s terrain consists of a blend of clay, silt, and sand.
Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello di Montalcino 2018 is a concentrated red wine with fruity and warm aromas, floral notes and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it has a bold, opulent flavor, with mineral hints and a juicy, tannic finish.
