    Description

A refined expression of South African Pinot Noir, named after the Karatara river, meaning “deep dark shadows” in the Khoisan language. Sourced from premium vineyards in Elgin, Overberg, and Durbanville, this wine presents classic notes of strawberry and red cherry, enhanced by subtle hints of spice. Its elegant, lightly-wooded style is supported by a firm yet silky tannin structure, beautifully complementing its bright, vibrant fruit profile. A versatile Pinot Noir, perfect for pairing with poultry, mushroom dishes, or simply enjoyed on its own.

    Producer Profile

Kara-Tara is a joint-venture between Rudger van Wyk and José Conde of Stark-Condé Wines.

The name Kara-Tara refers to a small town near Knysna, where winemaker Rudger van Wyk grew up. Translated from the traditional Khoisan, it means “deep dark shadows” and refers to the Karatara river that runs through the town.

Grapes are sourced from carefully-selected premium vineyards in the Western Cape. This wine has the classic notes of lemon & grapefruit you’d expect from Chardonnay, with hints of almond & a fine, mineral finish.
