The Paardeberg mountain rises above the rolling wheat fields on the southern border of the Swartland. Forgotten for decades and never considered as a premium wine region, it is home to many old vineyards and traditional, lesser known varieties. These vines are hardy, low yielding and produces grapes of exceptional quality.

Description

CELLAR INFORMATION Cinsault and Grenache are perfect partners and natural yeasts completed a partially whole-bunch co-fermentation. Extractions are light with punch-downs done early during fermentation.
Tinta Barocca is vinified separately and blended together into large old foudres allowing the flavours to marry and wine to mature. Bottled
after 11 months with only a light filtration and minimum use of sulphites. VINEYARD INFORMATION Cinsault and Grenache are sourced from vineyards growing on well drained, granite soils.
Cinsault was the work-horse grape and widely planted, but of the rare Grenache only a few old vineyards remain. Tinta Barocca has proven itself
in the Swartland already for decades as a robust variety. Here it is sourced from a warmer clay–rich vineyard.

A delicious red blend made up of Cinsault, Grenache and Tinta Barocca, this is a cool crystalline red wine that marries these traditional Swartland cultivars sourced from mostly gnarled old vines grown on deep decomposed granitic soils. With the grace and freshness of the Cinsault and Grenache, this blend is delightfully bright, elegant, and vibrant with a distinct cool sense of purity and precision. Initially savoury and sightly meaty on the nose when opened, the aromatics soon blossom to reveal perfumed notes of pressed violets, lavender, bramble berries and wild strawberry with an inviting underlying earthy fynbos and sweet garrigue spice. But this cool, elegant 2021 vintage is ultimately all about freshness, vitality and mid-palate tension, with the Tinta Barocca adding extra depth and tannic structure without compromising the wine s overall balance and finesse. This is certainly a mouth-watering creation that offers enticing drinkability and red meat friendly food accompaniment. Drink on release and over the next 5 to 8+ years.
