Description
This wine is crafted from grapes grown in the Redhill area of Stellenbosch, known for its iron-rich soil that imparts a distinctive character to Pinotage. Careful vineyard management and meticulous winemaking at Simonsig ensure this special terroir is expressed in every bottle.
‘Plush’ and ‘luxurious’ were just two of the Wine Champions panel’s descriptors for this polished old bush-vine pinotage, oozing smooth black fruit, mellow oak and a savoury twist on the palate.
Producer Profile
Founded in 1688 by Frenchman Jacques Malan, Simonsig has always stood out in South Africa’s rich landscape of wineries. Indeed, thanks to the family’s incomparable winemaking experience and tradition, Simonsig-branded wines have always been considered benchmarks for the region, often proving to be innovative. When people talk about Simonsig, they also talk about the history of Méthode Cap Classique, which is the South African classic method first produced by the Stellenbosch winery itself. The year was 1971.
