“Any rosé commanding a £40 price tag has got some serious work to do, after all the quality of white wine available at that price means it is competing with Premier Cru Chablis, for example, so it needs to be more than pink and inoffensive. Luckily this is no slouch… a divine perfume of apricot and peach, orange peel, lanolin, a touch of kerosene and smouldering cedar somehow reminiscent of top white Rioja. The palate is voluptuous, waxy and sumptuous, viscous enough to pair with food and redolent in its offering of yellow plum, cumquat peel, grated Parma violets and roasted macadamia nut.”
Description
The 2019 Elégance Du Clos Cantenac Rosé is a refined wine crafted by Charlotte Krajewski. After carefully piecing together the elements of her vision, the final step was using a 700-litre concrete egg for maturation. This unique vessel shape allows the lees to remain in continuous motion, aiding gentle flavor extraction and integration. Concrete provides stable temperatures and slower oxygen exchange than wood, preserving the wine’s freshness and vibrancy. The result is a superb rosé, ready to enjoy now but with potential to evolve over the next couple of years. This premium rosé is a fine example of winemaking at its best, delivered with perfect timing.
Reviews
Daniel Grigg NR
Pale pink, slightly deeper than partridge eye pink, with a fresh, tight, herby and red berry-fruited nose, leafy and creamy too. On the palate, plump and full bodied yet retaining this juicy freshness, beautifully mineral and textured going to a long, vibrant, citrus-infused finish. Absolutely delicious, this deserves to be served cool rather than iced to allow the fruit to sing. Drink 2020-2022 [Daniel Grigg, 01/03/2020]
Producer Profile
Clos Cantenac is a small but seductive 6 hectares property made up of four main parcels of vines carefully planted on an exceptional “terroir” of deep gravels, sand and clay over broken limestone situated close to the prehistoric “Megalith de Pierrefitte”.
