"Mid-week drinking is usually about matching sumptuous reds and whites in the evening with whatever s on the menu and this delicious Bordeaux petit Chateau is simply a classic must-have for the drinking rack. This second wine, Les Tourelles de Barrail is made from a 3-hectare parcel of younger vines, blending 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot which were aged in 20% French oak and 80% in stainless steel tanks. Made for accessibility and earlier drinking pleasure, this 2018 comes from the trilogy of great vintages in Bordeaux (2018, 2019, and 2020) and offers up a potent, ripe Bordeaux blend expression. In the glass there is an alluring, intense ruby garnet colour and aromatics of creamy black berry fruits, earthy black currant, salty black cherry and baked black plum compote with attractive complexing notes of caramelised roasted almonds, buttered brown toast and vanilla pod spice. The palate is plush and generous with a mouth-watering black fruited depth and intensity. Harmonious, soft textured Bordeaux reds like this are almost unrivalled for their food-friendly drinking pleasure so don t let the small price tag put you off. Drink this now and over the next 2 to 3 years." – Greg Sherwood MW. [Greg Sherwood, 01/03/2020]
