“This Haut-Médoc property, bought in 1985, is of particular sentimental value to the family as Maryse Meyre is herself originally from Cussac Fort Médoc. Château Julien neighbours the great terroirs of Saint Julien, the vines nestling on gravelly marls producing fruity, generous wines boasting harmonious tannins, in a style that has long made the reputation of Haut-Médoc.”

Description

The 2018 Château Julien Haut-Médoc is a rich and complex wine with blackcurrant and Morello cherry notes, complemented by velvety tannins. Made from 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot, the wine comes from gravelly soils in Cussac-Fort-Médoc, with an average vine age of 40 years. It undergoes manual and mechanical harvesting, fermentation in stainless steel vats, and 12 months of aging in oak barrels (30% new). Fined with egg whites, it produces 70,000 bottles. The wine is crafted under the guidance of the Michel Rolland laboratory.

Reviews

Greg Sherwood 92

"A real work of artisanal craftsmanship offering up the most seductive, fleshy, fragrant blueberry and cassis scented aromatics with a subtle kiss of leafy cedar and mocha spice. Medium to deep ruby in colour, this wine is tightly packed with earthy bramble berry fruits, red plum, blueberry crumble and a dusty, dried baking spice complexity. The tannins are soft and approachable yet sufficiently structured and inviting adding extra ballast and intensity to the long, creamy, dense finish. A very impressive wine that always defies its price point. Drink now and over the next 3 to 5 years. 92 points – Greg Sherwood MW" [Greg Sherwood, 02/03/2023]

A rich and complex wine, with notes of blackcurrant and morello cherry. The delicate and velvety tannins linger beautifully in the mouth. [01/03/2023]
