Description
The 2017 Roebuck Estates Classic Cuvée is a quintessentially English sparkling wine crafted from a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. The wine showcases delightful notes of baked apples, stone fruits, and a biscuity richness. The 2017 growing season provided ideal conditions with early budburst and dry, sunny weather, resulting in a long, warm ripening period. This wine offers substantial depth and complexity, earning a silver medal at DWWA and 91 points from Jancis Robinson.
Producer Profile
INTRODUCTION
Nestled in a serene valley at the foothills of the South Downs lies Roebuck’s Roman Villa vineyard where the fruit for this wine was grown. Crafted exclusively from handpicked Pinot Noir grapes, Roebuck Estates Blanc de Noirs 2015 is partially fermented in the finest French oak casks and bottle-aged for a minimum of 48 months. A rich, yet beautifully balanced wine with delicate bubbles, a silky texture, and a long-lingering finish. Baked apples and ripe stone fruits on the palate are layered with complex notes of brioche and toasted almonds, characteristic of a generous bottle-ageing.
CELLAR INFORMATION
The winter preceding the 2015 growing season was a cold one which vines tend to enjoy as it encourages a well-earned rest. Spring arrived later than usual with budburst taking place in early April, thankfully avoiding the frosts. Cooler temperatures in August slowed the growing season down, resulting in a slightly later than normal veraison. By harvest time, the fruit was ripe with perfect acids and we could be incredibly exact on picking dates ensuring optimal levels of sugar, acidity and aromatics.
VINEYARD INFORMATION
Our Blanc de Noirs 2015 is crafted exclusively from hand-picked Pinot Noir grapes grown at our Roman Villa vineyard. After careful selection, the grapes are whole-bunch pressed and partially fermented in the finest French oak casks. A generous lees ageing for a minimum of 36 months gives this wine depth, complexity and richness. It is drinking well now but will undoubtedly, continue to improve with bottle age.
