Description

The 2016 Holden Manz Merlot Reserve is a limited-edition wine, with only 163 magnums produced, making it a rare and special find. This full-bodied Merlot offers an enticing bouquet of ripe black fruit, dark chocolate, and subtle spice, with hints of tobacco and earthiness that add complexity. On the palate, it’s rich and velvety, with flavors of dark cherry, plum, and mocha, all balanced by smooth tannins and a long, satisfying finish.

The 2016 vintage was exceptional, with ideal growing conditions that allowed the grapes to reach perfect ripeness, resulting in a wine with deep, concentrated flavors and a strong, elegant structure. The wine was aged for 22 months in French oak, adding a touch of oak spice and a beautiful, rounded finish.

A fantastic match for grilled meats, roasted lamb, or rich cheeses, this Merlot is ready to enjoy now and will continue to evolve beautifully over time.

Producer Profile

A family owned wine producer located in the heart of the Franschhoek Valley. Established by owners Gerard Holden (a British investment banker in another life) & Migo Manz in 2010. The 22ha estate is situated between the Franschhoek River and Stony Brook at 300m above sea level.  With only 16 ha under vine, their focus has always been red grape varieties, though their stellar white wines, from the reserve Chardonnay, to the Chenin Blanc, and now Semillon requires further inspection. Best you read the critic’s notes and taste, to see for yourself!
