Tasting Notes

Tasted blind. Deep garnet. Sweet and leathery on the nose, slightly pruney. On the palate, this is rather dry and lacks fruit freshness even though there s plenty of acidity. Pretty chewy. The minus was for lack of freshness in an appellation where, for me, this should be a hallmark. (JH) [08/02/2024]

The 2014 De Fieuzal was following the Domaine de Chevalier Rouge and frankly that’s a difficult act to follow. It certainly does not possess the same precision of fruit concentration, perhaps enduring a reticent, broody stage of its evolution. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and well-judged acidity. Here perhaps more representative of the wine, building in the mouth towards a lovely cedar-tinged finish, leaving you on a high note. Hopefully the aromatics will develop with bottle age and then it will merit a higher score. [Neal Martin, 28/09/2017]
