Viña Cobos, Bramare Malbec, Uco Valley, Argentina, 2017

£34.99 £29.49

Paul Hobbs is best known for his wonderfully expressive Chardonnays & Pinot Noirs, alongside his super premium Cabernet Sauvignon – all produced from grapes grown in his Napa vineyards. However, he actually made his name as a winemaker in Argentina where he produced the country’s first ever Malbec for Catena in 1988.

This expression of Bramare is about as serious as Malbec can get and fantastic value compared to others of the same quality which command far higher price tags. Produced from fruit sourced from old vines the wine is then barrel fermented for 18 months in both French and American oak, however 70% of the oak used is second fill meaning it imparts far less oaky flavours yet still bestows the wine with greater depth, complexity and the potential to age gracefully.
