Uva Mira Mountain Vineyards, The Dance, Cabernet Franc, Stellenbosch, South Africa, 2017
Uva Mira benefits from the location of its mountain vineyards, which are 620 metres above sea level at their highest point, as the climate falls into category two on the Winkler Scale. In layman’s terms this means it has a lot more in common with vineyards in France than their South African neighbours. This, alongside the decomposed granite soils, allows them to produce wines which are the finest expression of terroir we’ve seen from anywhere in the New World.
Another tiny production of just 750 bottles, delicate violet floral aromas mingle with flawless purity of fruit and a gentle creaminess on the nose, yet savoury, offering up notes of light spice and flinty charm.
The epitome of sophistication showing both balance and polish. Fresh herbal notes and minerality alongside generous dark red berries, impressive chalky tannins and an appealingly dry finish. This is the first release of The Dance following the single vineyard the fruit comes from being named the best in South Africa for the cultivar and this wine is essentially a bottled testament to that accolade.
