Uva Mira Mountain Vineyards, Sing a Wing, Sauvignon Blanc, Stellenbosch, South Africa, 2018
Uva Mira benefits from the location of its mountain vineyards, which are 620 metres above sea level at their highest point, as the climate falls into category two on the Winkler Scale. In layman’s terms this means it has a lot more in common with vineyards in France than their South African neighbours. This, alongside the decomposed granite soils, allows them to produce wines which are the finest expression of terroir we’ve seen from anywhere in the New World.
Sing-a-Wing is a wine which beautifully demonstrates this terroir. Produced in tiny amounts of less than 2000 bottles per vintage it possesses a wonderful steely, linear minerality reminiscent of the finest Sauvignon Blancs available from regions such as Sancerre and Pouilly Fume in the famed Loire Valley. Our allocation for the last vintage of this wine was only 120 bottles and we sold almost half within the first few days of it arriving which is a testament to its undeniable quality.
