Coste de Vivo, Rosso No1, Toscana, Italy, 2018
Over 20 years, Toby Owen has gone from manager of a Scottish wine shop to Italian winemaker, with small vineyards dotted around the Monte Amiata subregion of Montalcino.
His medium-bodied wines combine red cherry, strawberry and sweet spice flavours with aromas of sun-baked earth, leather and dried herbs. Although the varietals classify it as a Super Tuscan the character is closer to a light Brunello and this is definitely worth a punt for Sangiovese fans.
