Taittinger, Brut Vintage, Champagne, France, 2005
I’ll happily take or leave (usually the latter) Taittinger’s NV but their Brut Millésimé is a consistently brilliant wine, as you can see from the rave reviews below. Also considering the last time I had it I paid £20 for a glass this is incredibly good value!

A superbly balanced wine that boasts a seamless intensity of apple fruits, soft citrus and beautiful acidity. It has its rich moments, with a hint of pineapple, easily absorbed into the great elegance.

The 2005 Brut Millesime captures the essence of the vintage. Radiant, expressive and totally caressing, the 2005 offers up dried pears, cherries, hazelnuts, flowers and savory herbs, all with an exotic inner sweetness that is pure and totally beguiling. I don’t see the 2005 being a long-term ager, but it is absolutely beautiful today and should drink well for at least a handful of years.

A very expressive Champagne, offering lots of smoky minerality and layered flavors of lemon curd, cherry puree, grated ginger and spice, bread dough and hazelnut. Mouthwatering, with fine, detailed texture. Drink now through 2025.
