Philipp Lang, Spätburgunder Eiswein, Weissherbst, Germany, 2011 – 375ml
There’s a certain purity in Eiswein that is incomparable. And when its made from the difficult to grow Pinot Noir grape it really is something special. The linear nature of the overripe, frozen and concentrated fruit used to make this wine is incredibly refreshing for something with this much residual sugar.
There’s a strawberry blast in every sip that will surely keep you coming back for more. Put with Eton mess or a Victoria sponge if you fancy something sweet. Cheeses of all descriptions will court this one well. Or, if you’re like me, enjoy on its own instead of a pud.
