Pazo Señorans, Selección de Añada, Albariño, Rías Baixas, Spain, 2011
One of my favourite wines of all time and a mesmerising example of how it is possible to age white wine without the use of oak barrels. This is a wondrous thing, exhibiting a creamy texture complemented by ripe apricot and peach with an intense linear minerality now but is going to get so much better.
I was lucky enough to try the 2002 vintage last year and if you’re patient you can expect to be rewarded with a surprisingly fresh acidity alongside a character of thick, chunky artisan marmalade thickly spread on freshly baked bread, crushed almonds and a butterscotch finish.
