Môreson Mercator Chardonnay, Franschhoek, South Africa, 2015
Moreson’s Medal Magnet Mercator Chardonnay receives twelve months in French Oak before bottling, then a further twelve months of maturation at the winery in bottle before release to the eagerly awaiting public. The wine is rich and buttery but with an elegance that is testament to the skills of winemaker Clayton Reabow.
I’d always rather have two bottles of Mercator than just one of Montrachet or Meursault. And you can take that to the bank, along with all the money you’ll save buying this rather than French equivalents.
The newly released 2015 vintage follows in its predecessor’s footsteps having already earned a very commendable 4.5 out of 5 stars and an honourable mention from renowned critic John Platter in his annual review.
