Luddite, Shiraz, Western Cape, South Africa, 2015
This is one of the finest expressions of natural wine making we’ve seen and is testament to the merits of the minimal intervention method movement. This is a BIG bombastic wine full of marinated dark fruit character and a leathery component rarely found in New World expressions of Syrah, as it’s called in its indigenous home – the Rhone Valley.
But don’t just take our word for it, read what some the most respected minds in wine have to say about it below:
Jancis Robinson: ‘this wine is a triumph of flavour over alcohol – no added water here – with real backbone as well as tons of spicy fruit. More leathery than the average New World Syrah but nothing like a northern Rhône wine.’
Decanter – Four Stars out of Five: ‘Bags of ripe, fleshy, generous fruit on the nose – juicy and fresh. Mouthwatering. Doesn’t disappoint on the palate, offering ripe blackberry, cherry fruit, a lovely weight and a lingering finish.’
