Kaesler, Old Bastard, Shiraz, Barossa Valley, Australia, 2017
Kaesler Old Bastard is one of Australia’s most highly regarded Shiraz wines, is consistently rated as one of the Barossa’s benchmark Shiraz wines and is highly sought after by wine collectors around the world. The Old Bastard vineyard was planted in 1893, and there are just 2.5 acres of these magnificent old vineyards. Volume is purely dictated by the quality of grapes produced each season.
After fermentation, the wine is matured in new (35%) and one-year-old French oak pièces for 12 to 16 months. Classical in style, it is typically red fruited in cooler years with dense velveteen, chocolatey textures, generous flavours and integrated mocha notes.
