Duckhorn, Paraduxx, Proprietary Red Wine, Napa Valley, California, 2012
Paraduxx, from the Duckhorn stable, was inspired by Super Tuscan wines such as Sassicaia of Tenuta San Guido which blended French varietals with their native Sangiovese much to the distress of the governing bodies of Chianti wine production who quickly decreed they could only be labelled as Vina da Tavola, or Table Wine, Italy's lowest wine designation.
This wonderfully bold and expressive blend is comprised of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Zinfandel, 3% Petit Verdot. The wine is a deep, dark and dense purple and kicks off with blackberry and boysenberry flavours, undertones of black pepper and cloves and just a flutter of something floral. Persistent tannins and well balanced acidity complement the complexity and make this a thoroughly enjoyable drop.
