Chateau Labegorce, Margaux, Bordeaux, France, 2016
I was really excited to try this again. The last time I tried it was at a Château Kirwan for the 2016 vintage UGC En Primeur tasting. It stood out alongside Brane-Cantenac and Kirwan itself as being one of the best wines of the vintage from Margaux, despite being much more modestly priced. This obviously excludes Palmer and the eponymous Château Margaux which can only be tasted at the Château, not at the UGC. Youthful, with rich, ripe cassis, blackcurrant jam & blueberry. Enjoyable now but only going to get better.
